Ay, Caramba-Bank Checks Featuring The Simpsons

By Alan Plastin

If you are a fan of The Simpsons then you are not alone. The show itself is the longest-running American sitcom, the longest-running American animated program, and the longest running American prime time entertainment series. Millions of dollars of merchandise has been sold all around the world with the Simpson's images and now you can even purchase personal bank checks with the famous family on them.

Matt Groening created The Simpsons for the Fox Broadcasting Company. It was meant to be a parody of the middle-class American lifestyle and the main family members were even based on Groening's own family members. The Simpson family members are Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. Some of the minor characters, however, have become just as well known as the main characters.

The Simpsons first appeared as shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show on April 19, 1987. It debuted as its own stand alone show on December 17, 1989. Later, it became the first Fox series to get in the Top 30 ratings in a season.

Since making its debut, The Simpsons has won 26 Annie Awards, 24 Primetime Emmy Awards, and on January 14, 2000 the show even secured its own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The series itself revolves around a family that lives in the fictional Mid-Western style town of Springfield. (A specific state is never given, as there are many "Springfields" throughout the United States.) Homer is married to Marge Simpson, a housewife and mother to his three children, Maggie, Bart, and Lisa. Bart is a ten-year-old boy that often gets into trouble; Lisa is a smart eight-year-old; and Maggie is the baby who always has pacifier in tow. The characters never age.

There are also many quirky minor characters that include teachers, co-workers, family members, friends, local celebrities, and other townspeople.

Quite a bit of merchandise exists for the show. You can find everything from board games like Operation, Monopoly, and Clue featuring the Simpsons to posters, coffee mugs, and T-shirts. When the movie was released, twelve 7-Eleven stores were turned into Kwik-E-Marts, a popular destination in the series, as part of the promotional efforts.

You don't have to find a Kwik-E-Mart to show your loyalty if you are a fan, however. You can just carry the family around in your wallet.

If you decide to purchase The Simpson's checks, you can bring all the comedy to your own life every time you take out your check book and write out a check. The checks, which come in various designs, contain Bart, Homer, Lisa, and Marge & Maggie. They also come in four different rotating designs. You can also purchase return address labels and a matching checkbook cover to coordinate with your new Simpsons checks.

The checks, which unfortunately only have the main Simpson family members, feature each character in a varying pose. In one series, Bart is looking up at the tops of the check giving a thumbs-up. A skateboard and the words "Looking fabulous" are written on this check.

Homer's check shows him up close with his favorite donut and the words: "Donuts...is there anything they can't do?" Lisa's check, on the other hand, states, "The truth must be told." Her check also contains a picture of a saxophone. Maggie and Marge are on the fourth check with the words "The extra ingredient is care."

If you want to save money on your checks, try buying them online and don't go to your local bank. You can save as much as 50% off the cost that your bank might have charged you if you try a safe website. In addition, you will have a variety of designs to pick from and your new checks will arrive in about 5-7 days. - 31981
